Myron Billy “Bud” Roker, 101, of Glenwood, Iowa, formerly of Clatonia, went to be with the Lord Oct. 25, 2024, in Omaha.
He was born Aug. 19, 1923, in Clatonia, to William Henry and Alma Adeline (Alpers) Roker. Myron graduated from high school in 1941 and completed two years at Milford Trade School. He faithfully served his country in the Army during World War II. The number 4 held a lot of significance to him during the war. He was in the 324th Infantry and the 44th Division. Myron was in combat for 204 days and went 144 days without a break from combat.
Myron was united in marriage to Viola H. Menninga on June 2, 1946, in rural Beatrice. To this union, six children were born and one adopted. Myron was employed as a communication supervisor for Natural Gas Pipeline of America until his retirement. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 141. He enjoyed woodworking and restoring furniture. In earlier years, he and his family traveled and camped in their motor home. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Preceding Myron in passing were his parents; wife; son, Donald Roker; and a niece. Survivors include his children, William (Pam) Roker of Nebraska City; Robert (Lisa) Roker of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Marlene (Larry) Turner of Pacific Junction, Iowa, Dennis (Teena) Roker of Glenwood; Shari (Bob) Brown of Glenwood; and Kelly Roker of Glenwood; 20 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Joan Hodge of Ennis, Texas; and many extended relatives and friends.
The funeral service was Nov. 4 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Glenwood. Interment with military honors was Nov. 4 at the Clatonia Cemetery.
