MINUTES OF THE DEWITT VILLAGE BOARD REGULAR MEETING held Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at 7:00 PM at the Village Office, 209 E. Fillmore Ave, DeWitt, NE. Roll Call: Present: Chairman Fink, Trustees Rahe, Wattjes, Workman and Weise Absent: None Also present: Utility Superintendent – Hunter Oliver; Clerk – Moria Holly; Loren Duerksen and Dustin Jones with Diller Telephone Co; James Noe and John Kimmel with Last Mile Networks; Bobbie Scherling and Ray Brown with Village Park Board; and Saline County Deputies Chairman Fink announced that a copy of the Open Meetings Act is posted in the meeting room and is accessible to members of the public. Received and placed on file the notices of the meeting. Motions approved by unanimous roll call vote: 1. Consent Agenda 2. Resolution 2023-03; Sale of Surplus Property 3. Ordinance 790 – Salaries and Wages 2024 4. Phillipi Electric Estimate – Community Center Outdoor Lights 5. WAPA – Assignment of Electric Service Allocation Discussions: Rodney Williams addressed the Village Board regarding his request to use the Community Center for Volleyball practices during the volleyball offseason. After discussions with the Village Board, it was agreed to do a trial run to better determine the need and interest for such request. Loren Duerksen and Dustin Jones with Diller Telephone Company/Diode Communications; and James Noe and John Kimmel with Last Mile Networks addressed the Village Board regarding Diller Telephone Company transferring ownership of their “line-of-sight” internet services and equipment to Last Mile Networks as Diller Telephone Company is concentrating more on their fiberoptic services. Diller Telephone/Diode Communications will submit revised Franchise Agreement documents by the next Board Meeting for formal approval. Ray Brown and Bobbie Scherling discussed with the Village Board lifeguards, lifeguard stands, steps for the pool, Leak Investigators inspection of the pool, Tiemann Construction inspection of the settled concrete, and grant funds for new tables and chairs for the pool, as well as, funds to replace any needed playground equipment. The Saline County Deputy introduced Deputy Escobar to the Village Board and they stated that everything was quiet over the last month. Fire Chief, Shawn Weise, discussed that the new ambulance is now in service and that the old ambulance may be sold to another Volunteer Fire and Rescue department as a “non-transport” vehicle later this week. Utility Superintendent, Hunter Oliver, discussed his training as Floodplain Administrator, stop signs and speed limits signs missing throughout the Village, and the need for hiring a Water/Wastewater Operator. The Village Clerk presented her report which consisted of monthly sales tax, clerk school in March, employee appreciation dinner, and presented a Help Wanted Ad regarding hiring a Water/Wastewater Operator; and the Village Board agreed to have a Special Meeting to discuss the same.
