Saline County voters – I would like to provide you with some background information on one of the candidates vying for the Saline County Commissioner position.

Chuck McKay and his co-conspirators have sued Saline County on three different occasions for miscellaneous reasons. Saline County won judgements on all three of the challenges with the court using the words “frivolous” and “meritless” in their decisions. At a Mutual Aid meeting I attended with all the Saline County Fire & Rescue Departments, at the conclusion of their meeting, I thanked them for paying their tax bills and helping pay the $30,000 bill for defending the county against the meritless challenges.

Within a few days I received a phone call from Chuck asking if I made certain statements at the Mutual Aid meeting. I confirmed I did but corrected some of the numbers he quoted. I also told him I considered him the “biggest liar in Saline County”. He wanted examples of lies so I gave him 5 or 6 examples, and he refuted NONE of them.

In addition to this, he initiated a recall of Commissioner Phil Hardenburger with a handout sheet which contained many half-truths and outright lies. Phil easily retained his commissioner position. Is this the type of person you want making very important decisions for you and the County? Vote Stephanie Krivohlavek.

Marvin A. Kohout

Retired Saline County Commissioner of 20 years

Editor's note: According to the county clerk, the total expense of the recall election was $9,179. The cost of defending Saline County could not be independently verified prior to publication, however all case filings are publicly accessible through the Nebraska Judicial Courts. The case numbers Kohout refers to include CI19-141, CI22-251 and CI22-117.
