LaVerne Mae Maneth passed away Feb. 18, 2024, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
She was born Jan. 25, 1936, to William and Mary (Pekarek) Smisek near Martell. LaVerne was raised in the Wilber area, graduating from Wilber High School in 1954. LaVerne married Francis Maneth in Carson City, Nevada, on May 18, 1963. They lived in Nevada and Nebraska before moving to Sioux Falls in 1972. LaVerne worked at various insurance agencies in Sioux Falls, including Midland National Life. She also worked at Sears, JC Penneys and Midco Call Center. LaVerne enjoyed embroidery, sewing and listening to Czech music.
Laverne was preceded in death by parents; husband; sister, Darlene Reynolds; and brother, Kenneth Smisek. She is survived by her children, Teresa Cole, Sioux Falls; Brian Maneth, Sioux Falls; Cheryl Thaler and husband Rick, Pickstown, South Dakota and Harold Maneth of Concord, California.
The funeral service was Feb. 23, 2024, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilber, with burial at the Wilber Czech Cemetery. Arrangements by Kuncl Funeral Home.
