Joan M. (Daugherty) Kappers, age 71, of Clatonia, passed away March 6, 2024, at the Wilber Care Center, surrounded by family. Joan suffered from the effects of COPD for several years.
Joan was born March 12, 1952, in Yankton, South Dakota, to Gail and Phillis Daugherty. Joan spent the majority of her work life working as a CNA in many nursing home facilities, the last being the Wilber Care Center. Joan enjoyed many hobbies outside of work. She loved embroidering, crocheting, scratching scratch tickets, but mostly spending time with her family. She enjoyed her many years of taking care of others in their time of need.
Joan is survived by her husband, Bruce Kappers of Clatonia; daughter, Teresa (David) Duensing of Clatonia; son, Jason (Christa) Bayliss of Friend; brothers, Jack (Jan) Daugherty of Hyannis, Chuck (Deb) Daugherty of Lyons, Roger (Rhonda) Daugherty of Kearney, Rodney (Betty) Daugherty of Valentine, Darrel (Lisa) Daugherty of Atkinson, Greg (Deb) Daugherty of Crookston, Tim Daugherty of Kearney, and Steve Daugherty and Fred Daugherty of Valentine; twin sister, Jean (Kenny) Daugherty of Martin, South Dakota; two brothers-in-law, Harold (Twila) Kappers of Edison, and Tim (Patty) Kappers of San Antonio, Texas: one sister-in-law, Linda Kappers of Kerrville, Texas; five grandchildren, Johnna (Jeremy) Bayliss of Lyons, Kansas, Kasandra Schellhorn of Lincoln, Jesse Hampton of Lyons, Cody Bayliss of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Justin Bayliss of Milford; six great-grandchildren, Kaden Hammond, Jace Hammond, Tracen Bayliss, Kiryn Schellhorn, KynLeigh Schulte, and Hadlee Lane; and 36 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by parents, Gail and Phillis Daugherty; two sisters, Sandy and Michelle; and three brothers, Ronnie, Kevin and Keith.
A Celebration of life will be Saturday, April 13, at the Clatonia Community Center at 11 a.m. Please come join us for great memories and some yummy food.
