Dorothy “Dot” Mahloch, of DeWitt, a generous, thoughtful, loving and witty woman, was called to her heavenly home on Dec. 28, 2023.
She was born Feb. 10, 1933, in Greenwood. Dorothy spent 68 wonderful years in DeWitt, where she was known for her warm spirit and sharp wit. As a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Dorothy deeply valued her faith, family, and her community. Growing up, she was a member of the Waverly Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Waverly High School and attended Nebraska Wesleyan University.
Dorothy was a beloved matriarch who dedicated her life to her family. Marrying the love of her life, Allen Mahloch, on July 31, 1955, she worked as a legal secretary for Steinacher and Vosoba in Wilber, before starting their family. After Allen's death in 1984, she became the heart of the family farming business. Dorothy's thoughtful nature was reflected in her love for her children and grandchildren, who were the pride of her life. She was also known for her love for her dog, Clancy, and her talent for playing bridge.
Dot also loved reading, playing Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit. She was a collector of many things … Hummel, Lladro, cardinal and rabbit figurines, Analee dolls and holiday decorations to name a few. Dorothy was a world traveler. Any chance she got to go on a trip, she took it. Her favorite places to visit were Denmark and Italy. At the ripe age of 70, she went dog sledding in Alaska. Dot was also well-known for her flower garden and spent many hours working outside well into her 80s. She was a very hard worker.
Dorothy took a lot of pride in her community of DeWitt. She was a former mayor and was instrumental in acquiring the Burkley Library, current village offices, “Welcome to Dewitt” sign and the Community Center sign.
Dorothy leaves behind her daughter, Nancy Mahloch of DeWitt; son, Mark Mahloch and his wife, Julie, of Waterloo; and grandchildren, Megan, Parker and Chelsea Mahloch and Haylee Grosvenor. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, William and Hazel (Borden) Dilldine, and her husband, Allen, along with a host of family and friends.
A Celebration of Life service was Jan. 4 at Trinity Lutheran Church in DeWitt with a graveside service at Evergreen Home Cemetery in Beatrice. A memorial has been established to Dot's memory to the DeWitt Fire and Rescue squad with the funeral home in charge.
