After winning a pair of duals Dec. 11, the Tri County wrestlers finished in the middle of the pack at North Bend Dec. 13 with 62 points.

Nick Sullivan led the Trojans with a second-place finish, going 3-1 with two pins at 215 pounds. He lost by pin to Christian Nordby of Pierce in the championship match.

“I’m excited for him,” Coach Jerod Spahr said. “We challenged him to be the athlete you are.”

The Trojans had six wrestlers in the consolation semifinals, Spahr said, and went 0-6.

“We would get in scrambles and stop. It showed we are still young,” he said.

He said the Trojans will work on continuing scrambles in practice.

“It’s nothing we can’t fix,” he said.

In the duals, Tri County defeated Fairbury 38-32 and Fillmore Central 48-24. The Trojans recorded four pins against Fairbury and four against Fillmore Central.

Spahr said, on paper, it didn’t look like the Trojans could beat Fairbury. Key matches were Dalton Ambrose at 132 pounds and Luis Alarcon at 285. Ambrose won his match 9-4, and Alarcon was able to bridge off his back and come back to pin his opponent.

Spahr said freshman Ty Shores is starting to come around at 120 pounds. Cade Spahr is also wrestling well. He’s a tough wrestler on the bottom and hard to ride, the coach said.

The Trojans will finish the pre-Christmas schedule with a triangular at Lincoln Northwest with Lincoln High Thursday, Dec. 18, and a tournament at Logan View Saturday, Dec. 20.

The wrestlers are then off until Jan. 9 when they host their home dual tournament.
