PUBLIC NOTICE Five-Year Review for Former Lincoln Air Force Base Atlas “F” Site 9 The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) will be conducting a Five-Year Review at the Former Lincoln Air Force Base Atlas “F” Missile Site 9, to be completed in 2024. The Five-Year Review is a regular checkup on the Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS) to ensure that cleanup decisions continue to protect people and the environment. It will also review the status of the cleanup and the laws that apply to the cleanup. Site 9 is located approximately 6 miles west of Wilber, Nebraska. The area consists of a fenced launch area and surrounding grounds with a total of approximately 245 acres. The fenced area comprises about 18.5 acres and consists of an empty, abandoned missile silo and other associated structures. Construction on Site 9 began in 1960, was deactivated in July 1966, and transferred to private ownership in March 1967. Investigations identified the main contaminant of concern to be trichloroethylene (TCE) in shallow ground water, approximately 50 feet below the surface. Due to low levels and limited potential for exposure, the selected remedy was Monitored Natural Attenuation (MNA) where concentrations would be tracked over time to ensure natural breakdown processes continue to decrease concentrations of TCE. For more information, an information repository has been established at: Doane College-Perkins Library, 1014 Boswell Avenue, Crete, NE 68333. If you have questions or would like additional information, please call the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District Public Affairs Office at 402-995-2417. WR — May 03, 2023 ZNEZ
