Melvin James Plouzek was born April 11, 1928, in rural Crete, to Albert and Abbie (Kacel) Plouzek and passed away peacefully Dec. 5, 2022, at his home.

Mel lived on the farm where he was born his entire life with the exception of the two years he was in the Army. Mel met Virginia Allen at Playmor Ballroom and were married in June 1969.

Mel was a loving, caring husband and stepfather to Virginia and her three sons. He enjoyed farming, fishing and traveling. Mel enjoyed fishing the ponds on the farm with the grandkids and great-grandkids and always enjoyed all the time he was able to spend with his nieces and nephews, as they were all special to him and he loved them all dearly.

Mel is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; parents, Albert and Abbie Plouzek; brother, Marion Plouzek; sister, Delores Broz; and nephew, Rodger Plouzek. He is survived by his stepsons, James Dedmon, Robert Allen and John (Elga) Allen; niece, Judy (Bob) Riepl; nephew, David (Cindy) Plouzek; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
