Lexington, Kentucky, resident, Irvin “Irv” Hayek, 89, passed away Thursday, Dec. 18, 2025, at Baptist Health Hospital in Lexington. A private burial service will be held at a later date.
Irv was born March 12, 1936, in Beatrice, to Frank and Rose (Plihal) Hayek and resided in Wilber. Irv was a beloved son, brother, uncle and great-uncle. He graduated high school from Wilber Public School in 1954, where he excelled in athletics and one-act. After high school, he enlisted into the Army. He continued his education and graduated from Columbia College in Missouri with a Bachelor of Arts.
Although he was born and raised in Nebraska, he considered himself a true Kentuckian. Irv was a proud career Federal Government Employee, and man of many trades. Irv was known for story-telling, polka dancing, finding a good deal and being a proud Army veteran.
He is survived by nephews and wives Michael and Diane Hayek of Lincoln, Pat and Sharon Hayek of Hastings, Dale and Patricia Gibson of Sutton; great-nieces and great-nephews, friends, and his caregiver and friend Amy Miller.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Milo and Liz Hayek; and sister and brother-in-law, Darlene and Don Gibson.
Per Irv’s wishes there will be a graveside burial of his ashes at a later date in Wilber.
