Sweet Tea Media staffers from the news room, graphic design team and marketing support will spend today and tomorrow at the NPA conference in Lincoln, NE learning and growing about community journalism. The two-day event will wrap up with an awards banquet. STM is excited to share with you next week the honors given to our weekly publications by peer leaders in our industry.

The Doane University "New Hall" naming ceremony will be May 10 at 4 p.m. The naming ceremony will honor and recognize the donor of Doane’s largest gift to date. The ceremony will include information about the donor, special speeches and an unveiling of the building’s official name. A reception will begin at 4:30 p.m., inside the main lobby of the residence hall. Guests may enter from 13th Street and Code Avenue.
Wilber-Clatonia is hosting an open house for its new, one-of-a-kind agriculture building today at 5:30 p.m. Lambert Zoubek of Wilber donated all of the money for the building in hopes to help the agriculture professionals of the future. It features a classroom, a food science and meat science kitchen with a walk-in cooler and meat processing equipment and an animal barnyard lab.
A Kentucky Derby fundraising luncheon will be held May 4 at 11 a.m. at the San Carlo Room in Friend. This is a joint fundraiser for the Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Store (HATS) and the Friend Historical Society. Attendees are encouraged to wear a hat/bonnet and attend to enjoy mint juleps, a Derby lunch, and style shop by Cumberlands Style Shop. Each will draw for a horse upon arrival. Those who have the horse name which wins the actual race will receive a prize. Proceeds from ticket sales and the silent auction held throughout the event will benefit both organization's projects. Admission is $30.
The Crete boys’ soccer team dominated York 3-0 on April 25 to end the regular season 12-3.
The Crete girls’ soccer team didn’t have enough fire power, losing to York 3-0 on April 25. Crete is set to face Lincoln Northwest in subdistrict action this Saturday at Seacrest Field on the campus of Lincoln East High School. Start time is scheduled for 9 a.m.
The Crete-Milford baseball team couldn't slow down Platteview April 25, losing 10-0. PHS pitching allowed just two hits for CM, doubles by Ethan Placzek and Triston Lenhoff. CM is scheduled to host Aurora tonight at 6:30 p.m.
