Eugene Allen Slama, 73, of Western, passed away peacefully Friday, July 18, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness and devotion.

Born on June 9, 1952, in Beatrice, he was baptized in Daykin at St. John Lutheran Church in 2018, symbolizing his spiritual growth. Gene was raised on a farm near Western by his parents, Elmer L. and Evelyn M. (Kobes) Slama, who instilled in him the values of hard work and compassion. Gene graduated from Tri-County public school in 1972, marking the beginning of his journey towards a bright future.

On Feb. 3, 1978, Gene and Teresa L. (Placek) were united in marriage at the First Christian Church in Fairbury, starting a new chapter filled with love, laughter and adventure. Their union was blessed with a son, Robbie, and daughter, Telisha, who brought immense joy and pride to their lives. Gene's dedication to his family and community was evident in his 40 years of service at Belvidere Elevator, where he worked tirelessly to support his loved ones and contribute to the local economy. After retirement, Gene pursued his passions, checking on the cattle, embarking on scenic truck cruises, feeding the birds and deer, watching Western Classics and cherishing moments with his grandchildren. His love for life and his family will continue to inspire and motivate those who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa L.; son, Robert A. (Kayla) Slama; daughter, Telisha (Bobby) Carnes; grandchildren, Joe and Royce Slama, Vera Slama Schwisow and Silas Carnes; brothers, Leon (Wanda) Slama, Roger Slama and significant other Nancy Wurst; sister, Mary Ann Rezac and significant other, Joe Houska; sisters-in-law, Carolyn (Robert) Slama, and Sharon (John) Slama; nieces, nephews, and many friends and neighbors. Gene's memory will live on through the countless lives he touched.
