He was baptized on March 10, 1946, at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Plymouth, where he was also confirmed on April 24, 1960. Daniel attended country school through fifth grade, then attended First Trinity parochial school before graduating from Beatrice High School in 1964. Throughout Daniel’s life, he was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church of DeWitt, where he served as chairman of the church council, usher and greeter. Daniel was a past member of the Swanton gun club and a prestigious recipient of the Quilt of Valor in 2023. Outside of work, Daniel enjoyed gardening and sharing his sweet corn with many family and friends.

He was an avid sports fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Kansas City Royals. He spent many hours coon hunting and raising his coon hounds and rat terrier dogs. His love for all animals was well known, which truly showcased his kind and gentle spirit. He found great joy in pulling pranks and keeping life fun for all those around him.
