Adams holds off TC seniors in season opener

The Tri County seniors dropped a close game in the season opener May 31, falling to Adams 4-3.

Adams scored two in the first, with Tri County putting up one in the second. Adams added another in the third, and TC cut the lead to one again with a run in the sixth. Both team scored one in the seventh.

Henry Kapke and Pierce Damrow had two hits each for Tri County, and both stole three bases. Tayden Gronemeyer pitched 5.2 innings and struck out five, with Jason Wehrman finishing the game.

The seniors were scheduled to play at Wilber June 4 at 8 p.m. and travel to Hebron Friday, June 6, for a 7:30 p.m. game.

The juniors got off to a 3-0 start with wins over Utica-Beaver Crossing 15-0 May 28, Milford 10-2 May 30 and Adams 9-0 May 31.

In the win over UBC, Maddox Haake led the offense with three hits and two RBIs. Jayton Jones, Jason Wehrman and Grady Schwisow had two hits each, with Jones hitting a double. Jones and Wehrman each drove in three runs, as well.

Wehrman was the starting pitcher and struck out 10 in four innings.

Haake led the offense again against Milford with a 3-3 game. Drew Siems, Wehrman and Jones had two hits each. Siems struck out nine in five innings on the mound.

Siems, Cheston Stewart, Jones and Owen Bartels notched two hits each against Adams. Jones struck out eight in five innings.

The juniors were to play at Wilber June 4 at 5:30 p.m. and travel to Hebron Friday, June 6, for a 5 p.m. game. On Sunday, June 8, the team hosts UBC at 5:30 p.m.
